Thanks for the idea! I asked one of my perl buddies if there might be some sort of built-in function. He recommended a perl module to me called Text::Wrapper. Here's the synopsis:

http://search.cpan.org/dist/Text-Wrapper/lib/Text/Wrapper.pm

I think this will do the trick, so I'll implement and test it tonight.
